Ateliers AME was founded with a passion for superior local know-how and the creation of exceptional products. Ateliers AME's founder, Antoine Mérien, started Ateliers AME by forming close relationships with local craftsmen, leveraging their specialized skills to develop truly unique items.
The attention to detail, skillful execution, and fine materials became Atelier AME’s signature quality and quickly gained recognition. Over the last three decades, Ateliers AME has nurtured its global craftsmanship relationships, soon developing connections in almost every country. This diverse community of international artisans closely collaborate on projects from ideation to execution, extracting their unique local know-how to create authentic, meaningful products. Through careful research and years of experience, Ateliers AME has identified several key manufacturers of materials to craft its bespoke products.
Mongolia: Cashmere
Ateliers AME sources the finest cashmere in the world from Mongolia, which is created by skilled craftsmen who follow the native tradition. Mongolia has been producing cashmere for more than 1,000 years. The goats that produce cashmere in this region are adapted to survive the harsh climate of Mongolia, and their wool is highly valued for its insulation and warmth. As a result of its length and thin strands, measuring 13-14 microns, Mongolian cashmere is a very coveted material, as it is very durable and soft.
Madagascar: Raffia
The Raffia Palm, which has the longest leaves in the plant kingdom, flourishes in the coastal valleys of Madagascar. Ateliers AME sources the best Raffia material for its products here. Harvesting Raffia is considered a sustainable practice, as the plant is not harmed during the process and can continue to grow once harvested. The leaves are selected from the most remote vegetation for a superior material and are dried into strings, which naturally have a soft, sandy color. The Raffia we source from these artisans is durable, pliable, flexible, easy to dye, and soft binding material, making it ideal for various uses.
Japan: Brass
Japan has a long-standing history with brass production, and Ateliers AME partners with its top producers, taking advantage of their unique methodology. Called “shinchu” in Japanese, brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. The Japanese are known for their innovative combination of alloys to create exceptional materials. The Japanese technique allows for the highest quality and controlled use of color.
Switzerland: Watchmaking
For very high-profile gifting, Ateliers AME partners with the best in Swiss watchmaking. Swiss watches are renowned for their precision, complication and luxurious quality. The exceptional craftsmanship of these watches uses only the finest materials, ensuring accuracy and durability, and making them an investment for a lifetime.
Italy: Leather
When it comes to its specialty leather items, Ateliers AME turns to its connections in the world of fine Italian leather, which is known globally for being of the best quality. Italy has been honing its craft of leather making since the 13th Century. This type of leather is made from the top layer of hides, which are then split and treated, making it smooth, flexible, and able to stretch. A lifetime of use can be expected from this full-grain leather.
France: Perfumes
With some of the world’s most luxurious and famous scents produced in France, Ateliers AME relies on the country for candles and other items requiring scent. Large farms of plants produced on the French Riviera define the quality. A well-known point of interest in the region, Grasse is labeled the world’s perfume capital. Many of the most well-known perfume companies’ products are produced in France, including Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, and Lancome.
Japan: Paper
Ateliers AME relies on Japanese manufacturers for the production of exceptional stationery. Japanese paper is renowned for its thin, durable, and multipurpose properties due to its meticulous craftsmanship. To ensure consistency in appearance and texture, each batch of paper is carefully inspected for uniformity and quality.
France: Porcelain
Ateliers AME produces its porcelain in France for a high-quality, durable, and natural product that can last for generations. French porcelain has been a world-renowned specialty since the 17th Century. By 1760, French porcelain production styles gained global recognition.
